Welcome To Our Website.
Effingham County Search and Rescue (SAR) is a elite team of trained
volunteers. Working with our search dogs, we respond 24/7, in any weather,
to search for lost or missing persons. SAR is a unit under the Effingham
County Sheriff’s department.
K-9 Handler, Dog And Ground Search Technician
Mission Statement: SAR assists police, fire, dive teams and other emergency agencies in
locating lost or missing persons. We are trained for wilderness,
urban, building and disaster searches. Because of their incredible
sense of smell, our search dogs also assist dive teams in locating
drowning subjects.
A search tem includes a K-9 Handler, Dog and Ground Search Technician.
Multiple teams are used in most searches. Each team searches its assigned
area, repoting its findings back to SAR's command post.
Activating SAR can more than triple the chances of finding a person!
Searches performed by trained personnel with search dogs have an average
85% success rate. A search by untrained people averages a 35 -50% success
rate. Time is critical to the successful recovery of a lost or
missing person.
Congratulations, Captain Mary Jo Tucker & Marco!
